Monday

Supposedly a quiet day....we waited for Sandrine [our landlady] to look at some things which needed fixing. We then went to BHV department store only one stop away but

decided to go underground to the station– two sets of escalators out this time and a long travelator. In the shop we stopped on the school supplies floor. The pace was frantic with children rushing around with their trolley baskets stocking up with the year's supplies. Little ones learn to write with chalk on framed slates, plain on one side and a grid on the other. Discount signs are everywhere.

We had lunch at “La Kantine” at BHV. You take the tray of food to a table and eat off the tray. But my mother said one removed the tray and put it to one side. Also, at the table don't put your hands on your lap, wrists on the table at all times. Viva la difference.

We got on the metro and young men leapt out of their seats so we can have one. Old!
