We are staying inside the walled
citadel built by the Knights Templar. The apartment has heavy beams
and been beautifully renovated. There is a flight of stairs to the
front door, then a flight of stairs to the first level – sitting
room kitchen, small balcony and toilet, then another flight of stairs
to the bedroom, bathroom with second toilet and a washing machine!
Also a large balcony. No wifi, so Geoff has hooked up his phone as a
wifi access point.
We had a swim and a great catch up with
friends Sue and Jean Claude yesterday at their house 3km out of the
village. We ordered food from the traiteur for dinner at our house
on Saturday, and he just wanted our name not a deposit.
The street sweeper comes around about
08:30. No sleeping in here.
Lorgues was sited here [mentioned in 986]because of the
amount of water available. We did a walk around the fountains,
although because of the extremely dry weather many are not running.
Some have taps to be turned on, even then some did not run. Nearly
all inside the citadel had water. 35 wells in the outlying area have
gone dry and people must buy water. Below is some of the 20 fountains in the area.
