to the Riviera

We left the Camargue and drove across wide areas of container terminals and petro-chemical plants to the steep hills of the south. There are now tall trees and shrubs that grow well in rocky soil. Hyères was mentioned in a document in 963, but traders have been coming and going since BC. Louis IX disembarked here in 1254 instead of going back to Aigues-Mortes.

We went on a 19C walk of the town. The town became very popular for winter tourists and many hotels and villas built.
