south into the delta

We entered the Parc Naturel Regional Camargue and drove south along a back road. We waited ages for the local ferry sitting on the other bank. We were about to turn back when their other passengers turned up – horses. The ferry had to be cleaned off before we could drive on.

We stopped at the Parc Ornitholique for a walk. We were concerned that we may not see flamingoes in the area. There were hundreds and we took nearly hundreds of photos. Flamingoes are pinker in winter and spring due to the nature of their food.

The earliest building in Les Stes-Maries-de-la-Mer was the church built in 6C and remodelled several times. The street plan is medieval but not the buildings. Stone has to come from a long distance so other buildings in the area would have been timber. We have added to the enormous number of tourists in this flat little town. Every fourth shop sells icecreams. One street is just restaurants - 50 of them. We have fly screens on the windows!

    1. Thanks, Emily. It was lovely to see so many when I thought they may be hard to find.
