We met Sue and some ladies from the Women’s Club for coffee. We got the last table. Every cafe was packed.
The market stalls stretch along the main street, down two side
streets and into another square. There are a lot of stalls for womens clothing, some tablecloths, kitchen bits and pieces, baskets. All the
food is at one end. The council doesn’t
charge very much and provides power for the food trucks – butcher, fishmonger,
fromagerie. The spice man had huge sacks
of spices on his trestle table. All has to be packed up again.
While having lunch we watched an older man park his nice car and walk around the
market collecting discarded fruit and vegetable in trays which he put on the
protected back seat. Does he have rabbits, pigs?
The clean up by the local council started as soon as the food
trucks had moved out. Two large garbage
trucks were used with men picking up large items. A manual vacuum cleaner was being used
further down the street, the motor part on top of a wheelie bin on four wheels. The brand was Glutton.
