To the Camargue

We stopped at Musée Camargue and walked along paths through the area showing pastures and marshland.

We are staying at medieval Aigués-Mortes. Louis IX built the largest tower in eight years [started 1204] as he wanted a seaport fast. His son finished construction in early 1300. The town was planned on a rectangular grid [bastide] with tax exemptions for people to move there and was finally filled up in the 19C. Louis had a canal cut to the sea to get his ships in and out.
