Gap to Lorgues

We left Gap early – in time to hit the peak hour.  We crawled bumper to bumper for 10km until we got onto a freeway.   Then it was on to the autoroute making up time by travelling at 130km per hour.

We turned off the autoroute to travel on small roads.  D34 has a middle line, and lines on the shoulder, D554 has a middle line and lines on the edge, no shoulder.  A higher D number may not have any lines.

We detoured into La Verdière for a coffee.  The horse float several cars in front came to a sudden halt and we sat for some time.  Hmm, should someone go around?   Then we slowly moved off and saw a green traffic light.  The road was one way through that part of the village as the buildings were too close.

We got into Lorgues late in the morning.  The instructions for the apartment were quite long winded but didn’t provide a full explanation of how to get through the gate, find the apartment, turn on the water or set up the internet.  The owners live in North Yorkshire and have a different way of describing things.

We had lunch in the main street watching the markets.

Hilary went to meet her friend Sue and go with the Garden Club of the International Women’s Club of Provence to view Jardin de la Graviere in Pierrefeu-du-Var.  It was great to reconnect with Sue on the drive.  The members were all very friendly and we had a great tour of the garden.

Geoff had walked to the supermarket, then then sent Hilary a text: can you get a baguette?  First Boulangerie was shut [5:45 by this time], second one – out of bread, third one shut…….. there’s another one around the corner – plenty of bread, which type of baguette would you like? Crusty or not so crusty?  It was delicious.
